The National Assembly of Armenia elected the leader of the velvet revolution Nikola Pashinyan Prime Minister of the country. It is reported by Radio Azatutyun.
59 deputies voted for Pashinyan, 42 against the candidate, it was necessary to get at least 53 votes in a 105 -seater parliament.
In support of the leader of the revolution, the deputies of all three opposition factions - the Elk faction (Exodus), as well as the factions of the Tsarukyan Bloc and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation of Dashnaktsutyun - and part of the members of the Republican Party of Armenia, which have the majority in the current composition of the National Assembly, acted as deputies.
The meeting of the parliament was broadcast live on the Republic Square, where demonstrators gathered - participants in the velvet revolution. They met Pashinyan by the prime minister by glee.
Pashinyan was elected prime minister on the second attempt. At a meeting on May 1, the Republicans failed his candidacy . In response to this on May 2, a nationwide strike was launched. On the same day, the Republicans promised to change their position, and protests were suspended until the morning of the 8th.
Unlike a long meeting on May 1, the current one took only about an hour and a half .
Now the Provisional Government, which will form a new prime minister, will have to hold extraordinary parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
On the eve of Pashinyan, he said that the oligarchs would not be part of his office. He also assured that after his election in the country there will be no monopoly on one or another economic activity. “The rules of the game should be clear to everyone,” the politician noted. “The rules of the game are legality. We have already said, and I would like to emphasize that there will be no vendett, I will say about this in my speech (in parliament on May 8. - Ed.). Political and economic persecution in the Republic of Armenia is closed, and our task is to create an atmosphere of solidarity.”

In 2007, Pashinyan nominated the National Assembly at the head of the Bloc "Impichment", who advocated the resignation of President Robert Kocharyan and Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan. The block scored slightly more than 1 percent of the vote; Pashinyan called the results of the elections falsified.

The police dispersed the shares; Among the demonstrators were victims .
Pashinyan was put on the wanted list. For more than a year, the politician was hiding; At the same time, by his own admission, he did not go beyond Armenia and spent most of this time in Yerevan.
