
The US State Department imposed sanctions against a number of Russian military structures, including GRU and "any of its successors, units or subordinate formations." The sanctions list has already been placed on the website of the US Federal Register - the official journal of the American administration - although the date of publication of the document is named on May 10.
Sanctions against the defendants of the list were introduced for cooperation with Syria, Iran and the DPRK, which violates the regime of non -proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
In addition to the GRU, the following Russian structures fell under the sanctions: the 183rd missile anti-aircraft guards Molodechno regiment (base in the Gvardeysk, Kaliningrad Region), the design bureau of instrumentation (Tula), the Gatchinsky training center of the anti-aircraft missile forces (Leningrad Region), the 18th Central Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense in Kursk and the scientific and production concern of Barle Barle (Moscow).
The list also includes several dozen organizations and personalities from Egypt, Iran, China, DPRK, the United Arab Emirates, Syria and Turkey. As the Syrian structure in the list, the Hezbollah operating in Lebanon is mentioned.
From October 2008 to May 2010, Rosoboronexport was under such sanctions . The State Department explained the abolition of sanctions by a transaction between the United States and Russia, within the framework of which Moscow agreed to support Washington’s draft resolution of the UN Security Council regarding the Iranian nuclear program.
