Skydiver instructor Vladimir Gaikova died in hospital after an unsuccessful parachute jump near Megion in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. Relatives reported the man’s death after ten days in intensive care, reports URA.ru.
On April 29, the man and a 15-year-old schoolgirl were taken to the hospital in serious condition. They jumped in tandem from a height of 2000 meters, but their main parachute did not open, and the reserve one opened too late. The instructor took the entire blow upon himself, journalists point out. As of April 29, the girl’s health did not raise any concerns.
A source in the Ugra Department of Health confirmed the death of the instructor.
After the unsuccessful jump, investigators opened a criminal case under the article “provision of services that do not meet safety requirements.”
