The ECHR ordered Russia to pay compensation to publicist Boris Stomakhin

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ordered Russia to pay compensation of 12.5 thousand euros to publicist Boris Stomakhin, who was convicted on charges of incitement to terrorism. This is stated in a press release on the website of the court.

The ECtHR ruled that the severity of the punishment violated Article 10 of the Convention on Human Rights (freedom of expression). At the same time, the court recognized that the articles of the publicist contained calls for violent actions and justification of terrorism.

Publicist Boris Stomakhin was sentenced for his blog posts to a total of seven years in a strict regime colony. He was found guilty of public calls for terrorism (Part 1 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code)
