Angara region: Residents refused to relocate due to gold mining

Residents of the village of Marakan Irkutsk Region refused to move due to the construction of the gold mine. Despite the decision of the regional authorities to resettle people, 48 people opposed and sent a petition to the local government. According to Irsity, they are not satisfied with the amount of compensation. Many simply may not have enough money to move and new housing.

Gold mining companies want to start mining in the village, but this can only be done after complete resettlement. Officials refuse to engage in the development of the village due to a small number of inhabitants - 293 people. In addition, the investor - the Polyus company - promised to participate in the financing of the campaign to move the inhabitants. The total amount proposed to people amounted to a little more than 700 thousand rubles, based on the norm of 20 square meters per person. Half of this amount was given by gold miners, half - the regional budget.

The official representative of the Ministry of Social Development, Guardianship of the Irkutsk Region Alla Agafonova told the correspondent "Siberia. Reali" that people are unlikely to stay in the village. There will be closed by a boiler room, a school, a first -aid post and shops. At the same time, the option of forced resettlement has not yet been considered. Now social services employees are conducting an apartment bypass and convincing people to move. All problems related to moving will be discussed next week.

Despite the protests of the residents, the deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the region the day before approved the procedure for paying money. Now it must be approved at the session on May 16. According to the documents posted on the official portal of the region, only the compensation mechanism itself is determined. What officials will do if people refuse to move, the law is not said.
