Navalny was arrested for 30 days due to repeated violation of the rules of mass protests

The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow arrested politician Alexei Navalny for 30 days because of the “He is not our king” campaign, a Mediazona correspondent reports from the courtroom.

Navalny was found guilty under Part 8 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code (repeated violation of the rules for holding a mass event). The decision on Part 1 of Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (disobedience to a police officer’s demand) has not yet been made.

The first meeting on these cases took place on May 11. Then the judge granted the defense’s request and agreed to postpone the hearing in order to question Maxim Dubinin, an employee of the second operational regiment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the platoon commander, senior lieutenant Alexander Zverev.

As a result, Dubinin was unable to participate in the meeting because he was busy with work. Zverev came to court. He said that on May 5 at 14:30, police noticed Navalny among the protesters, who was giving an interview.

“That is, he clearly heard that the action was not coordinated, he heard demands through a megaphone, but clearly ignored them,” Zverev said. According to him, after this, “due to possible illegal actions,” the police decided to detain Navalny.

The “He is not our king” campaign took place on May 5 in many Russian cities. In total, according to OVD -Info, almost 1,600 people were detained. The action in Moscow was the largest; according to various estimates, from one and a half to 15 thousand people took part in it. Cossacks took part in dispersing the protesters; they beat the protesters with whips. According to TASS, after the rally, eight people sought medical help.

against one of the detainees, Mikhail Tsakunov, In St. Petersburg, a case was opened under Part 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code (use of violence against a police officer dangerous to life or health). He was accused of knocking out a policeman's tooth at a protest. The human rights group of Open Russia said that Tsakunov did not participate in the action; he was detained when he and his friends stood on Palace Square with a deflated yellow duck. Tsakunov claims that he did not hit the policeman.
