Birobidzhan: Jehovist Aliyev sent to a pre -trial detention center

The judge of the Birobidzhan district court of the Jewish Autonomous Region Marina Tsimarno arrested Alam Aliyeva, a member of the local community of Jehovah's witnesses, until July 13. This was reported on the court website. The decision was made on May 18.

The petition for the arrest of the suspect was submitted by the senior investigator for particularly important cases of the regional FSB Vladlen Bryantsev. The prosecutor’s office at the court was represented by the senior assistant to the regional prosecutor for the supervision of the implementation of the laws on federal security and interethnic relations Dmitry Martynov.

At the Bryantsev’s hearing, he insisted that, being free, Aliyev could “exert psychological pressure on witnesses”, “having information about his illegal activity”, as well as to hide abroad: according to the security official, the defendant has a passport, he does not rule the property in Russia and “maintains relations with other Religious organizations of Jehovah's witnesses” line.

Lawyer Aliyeva Valentina Sukhareva appealed the decision to arrest.

55-year-old Aliyev was detained on Thursday . He is charged with part 1 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code (organization of activities of an extremist organization), which provides for 6 to 10 years of the colony. The political prisoner is the organizer of the local Jehovist community and "has an actual influence on the participants in the association." According to the plot of the case, from February 2017 to May 2018, Aliyev convened the meetings of believers, organized performances with sermons and collected donations for the needs of the community, and also conducted "mass events aimed at distributing extremist literature and materials of extremist content." At the same time, in the message of the Jehovah Witnesses in Russia, he was called a member of the community, not its leader about the detention of Aliyev.

On May 17, in Birobidzhan, searches in the case were held at least nine dwellings of the alleged Jehovists. In the searches conducted in the early morning, 150 security officials participated. One of them said that the code name of the operation is "Day of Judgment".

Citizens seized all electronic devices, including faulty, as well as photographs, bank cards and cash.
