The Federal Agency for Tourism did not support the initiative to ban the Booking.com online booking service in Russia. Rostourism stated that it has no authority or plans to regulate the site's activities.
A statement on the department’s portal says that the service is “in demand by Russian citizens who actively use its capabilities to organize independent tours.”
Earlier, the Ministry of Culture reported that they did not plan to ban Booking.com in Russia. The department said that they categorically oppose such a formulation of the issue and only redirected the appeal of the author of the idea, the head of the Svoi Tourist Service company, to Rostourism. This procedure is prescribed by regulations.
The head of the Svoy TS company, Sergey Voitovich, proposed limiting the work of Booking.com on booking rooms by Russians in hotels in the country. The company he heads is a competitor to the service.
