• The meeting was supposed to take place in Singapore on June 12, but, according to the American leader, it is inappropriate to hold it now.
• The reason for the cancellation, according to Trump in a letter to Kim Jong-un, was the open hostility of the DPRK leader, demonstrated in the latest statement. "You talk about your nuclear potential, while our nuclear capabilities are so great that I pray to God that we do not have to use them."
• Trump also thanked Kim Jong-un for releasing American "hostages", calling it a "beautiful gesture" and expressed hope that the meeting would take place at a later date. “I would very much like to meet with you someday,” the president wrote.

Context

• The US and North Korean leaders agreed to meet in early March. The corresponding initiative was made by Kim Jong-un himself.
• On the eve of the meeting, the head of North Korea proposed to close the Pungeri test site, which served as a site for nuclear tests. The corresponding dismantling was carried out earlier on Thursday. Foreign journalists were invited to cover the event in the DPRK.
• Kim Jong-un also freed three Americans held in labor camps near Pyongyang. All of them, according to North Korean media, were detained for "anti-government hostile acts."
