Journalist Arkady Babchenko was killed in Kyiv

In Kyiv, the Russian opposition journalist Arkady Babchenko emigrated to Ukraine was killed. This was reported in the press service of the police of the Ukrainian capital.

The first deputy head of the National Police of Ukraine Vyacheslav Abroskin published a photobot of the alleged killer on Facebook. This is a man with a gray beard aged 40-50 years old about 175-180 centimeters. He was dressed in a blue baseball cap, jeans and a denim jacket.

The New Gazeta, in which Babchenko worked in the past, will conduct a journalistic investigation of his murder, said the editor -in -chief of the publication Dmitry Muratov.

On the day of the murder of Babchenko, the police at 5 a.m. searched for some videos from the cameras of vision in his house, the Gromadsky Radio reports with reference to unnamed sources. In what case the investigative actions were carried out, it is not specified.

The day before, Babchenko said on Twitter that a certain “presidential proxy” placed an open -domestic proposal about his murder. The tweet contained a link to the post on the FB page of Babchenko; Now he is unavailable.

Presumably, the journalist had in mind the Prochrevsky blogger Marina Yudenich - in 2014, in her LiveJournal, she offered the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov to drink tea with Babchenko. Now the post is deleted, but is available in the cache.

Babchenko constantly received threats. Public calls for his murder were posted in particular on the Internet resources of Novorossia.

Babchenko left Russia in February 2017 - he learned that a criminal case was being prepared against him. At that time, his persecution unfolded in social networks in connection with a commentary on the crash of the Ministry of Defense an airplane over the Black Sea.

The Columonist of Komsomolskaya Pravda Anatoly Residents called for a criminal case against Babchenko. State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov threatened the journalist by deprivation of citizenship.

For some time, Babchenko was in the Czech Republic and Israel, and then settled in Ukraine. He conducted a weekly program on the ATR television channel.

Babchenko was born in 1977. In 1995, he was drafted into the army, served in the communications troops and participated in the first Chechen war. In 1997, he resigned to the reserve, after which he graduated from the Law Faculty of Modern Humanitarian University, having received a diploma of bachelor's law on international law. After the start of the Second Chechen War, Babchenko joined the army under the contract, took part in the conflict as a signalman, then served in the motorized rifle troops and the calculation commander in a motorized rifle platoon.

In 2000, Babchenko quit the army with the rank of foreman of the reserve and took up journalism. He was a military correspondent for the Moscow Komsomolets and Novaya Gazeta, wrote several books about Chechen wars. As a freelance journalist, he covered the war in Georgia in 2008, a revolution in Kyrgyzstan in 2010, the Kiev Maidan in 2014, the first phase of the war in the Donbass in the spring and summer of 2014.

In recent years, he refused to cooperate with the editions of the media and led the crowdfunding project "Journalism without intermediaries." Babchenko was one of the most popular Russian -speaking bloggers.
