The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has awarded 7,500 euros in compensation to Leonid Kovyazin, a person involved in the Bolotnaya case, who was convicted of participating in mass riots (part 2 of article 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), Interfax . writes

According to Kovyazin's lawyer, Dmitry Agranovsky, the ECHR declared it illegal to keep the convict in a cage during the trial.

The ECtHR decided that the actions of the Russian authorities violate Art. 3 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms that no one shall be subjected to torture, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Recall that the actor and journalist Leonid Kovyazin was detained on September 5, 2012 for participating in riots on Bolotnaya Square. Until December 2013, he was in a pre-trial detention center, despite the fact that the defense reported that the convict had diseases. Kovyazin was later amnestied.
