The Council of the Federation of the Russian Federation considered the special operation of the Security Service of Ukraine (CBU), in which the murder of journalist Arkady Babchenko, a provocation aimed at Russia, was staged . The actions of the SBU in the Council was called "delusional." A similar point of view adheres to the Council of Journalists of Russia.

The head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev expressed regret due to the fact that the Russian journalist took part in the operation of Ukrainian special services. “I am sorry that Babchenko took part in the provocations of Ukrainian special services. I attribute the staging to the series of delusional actions of the Ukrainian authorities in the Russian direction,” the Senator of Interfax said.

In turn, the head of the Commission of the Council of Information Policy and the media, Alexei Pushkov, called the staging of the murder of Babchenko "mystification". “The last information is Babchenko is alive. Mystification, coupled with provocation and accusations against Russia in connection with the invented murder,” the senator wrote on his microblog on Twitter.

The head of the Secretariat of the Union of Journalists of Russia Denis Tokarsky also considered a staging of the murder of Babchenko similar to provocation. "All this seems to be more like a provocation of the Ukrainian authorities, since I do not see any point in attempted attempts against Babchenko," said the head of the SDR.

According to him, there are a lot of people with such a position as Babchenko, including journalists. “They, it seems to me, are not represented for anyone,” Tokarsky said. He also expressed joy due to the fact that the journalist was alive. “But, to put it mildly, the feeling is strange from this whole story,” the Tokarsky summed up.

It should be noted that in the Kremlin after the SBU briefing, at which it became known about the staging of the murder of Babchenko, they did not give assessments of the special operation in Kiev. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov limited himself to a statement that he knew that the journalist is alive.

At the same time, the Kremlin representative was unable to deploy the statement of the SBU that the attempt on Babchenko allegedly prepared the Russian special services. “I don’t know who accuses, who and what,” snapped Peskov.

For almost a day, the media, Ukrainian and Russian officials reported the death of Babchenko. Closer to the evening of May 30, the Security Service of Ukraine held a briefing, at which the journalist who was considered killed appeared whole and unharmed. Babchenko explained that his murder was a staging as part of the SBU operation, which was prepared for two months.

The Security Service of Ukraine reported that the preparation of the murder of Babchenko are Russian intelligence services, who, for this purpose, recruited a certain Ukrainian. This citizen of Ukraine, in turn, hired a former participant in the ATO for the murder of a former member of the ATO, offering him a reward of 30 thousand dollars. According to the SBU, the murder executor has already been detained.

The night before, May 29, the Kyiv police reported that Babchenko was killed. It was reported that the killer released three bullets in the back of the journalist on the threshold of his apartment in Kyiv, after which the victim died on the way to the ambulance.
