The Constitutional Court of Moldova recognized the outdated law of 1989 "On the functioning of languages ​​on the territory of the Moldavian SSR", which assigned the status of the language of interethnic communication behind the Russian language. In fact, KS indicated, the law has not been valid for a long time. “It is not his norms that have legal consequences, but the norms of special laws adopted later,” the judges decided.

Such a decision says in a press release of the court, equivalent to the abolition of the law, despite the fact that the Code of Constitutional Jurisdiction and the Law "On the Constitutional Court" do not provide for the procedure for recognizing the law outdated.

The decision was made on the January statement of deputies of the Parliament from the Liberal Party. They indicated that in accordance with world practice, the status of the language of interethnic communication in the country should be given to its state language - Romanian.

At the same time, the requirements of the deputies of the Constitutional Court did not satisfy in full. The judges, in particular, indicated that the translation of normative acts into Russian and their publication in translation, as well as a state guarantee of obtaining education in Russian, contrary to the opinion of the applicants, do not contradict the status of Romanian as the state language of Moldova.
