According to the head of the State Duma Committee on the Info-Policy Leonid Levin, it is necessary to develop international rules to regulate the Internet space, including the fight against fakes that are distributed through messengers and social networks.
The chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications Leonid Levin, together with the editor -in -chief of European Post, Marco Gombacchi, held a round table “Legislative support for the media: safety and freedom of speech”. The event took place as part of the International Forum "Development of Parliamentarism", held in Moscow. In his speech, Levin said that today in Russia the region of the media is regulated by a detailed system of legal norms comparable to the legislation of the main developed countries of the world, while the focus of legislative activity is currently aimed at “regulating the activities of new media”:
“But we must remember that the Internet is a cross -border phenomenon. Each resident of the planet should be able to communicate in a single space. In the coming years, we all should engage in the development of general regulatory rules; For this work, it is advisable to create a certain cyber UN - an international information environment regulator. ”
He recalled the ban on the distribution of “defamatory information that does not correspond to reality, as well as calls for riots, inciting hatred on a social and religious principle” on the territory of the Russian segment, and assured: “The State Duma will do everything possible to protect Russians from another evil in the World Wide Web - from fake news.”
The head of the information committee believes that “messengers and social networks switched people's attention to new media, and their openness gives the expanse of fake news and manipulating public consciousness, which cannot but attract the attention of the state.”
Separately, Levin pointed out the need to improve the system of protecting personal data of users. Summing up the meeting, the deputy noted that the discussion highlighted the impossibility of accurate copying of the norms of any country for their legal application in another state.
