The St. Petersburg City Court rejected an appeal against the arrest of the accused in the May 5 case

The City Court of St. Petersburg rejected an appeal against the arrest of Mikhail Tsakunov, accused of using violence against a police officer (Part 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code) on May 5. Rosbalt reports this.

Thus, the decision of the Dzerzhinsky District Court of St. Petersburg dated May 7, according to which Tsakunov will remain in the pre-trial detention center for at least another two months, is upheld. The resolution of the Dzerzhinsky court was partially changed: the words that Tsakunov could interfere with the investigation were removed from it.

Tsakunov's lawyer Pavel Yasman asked the court to transfer his client to house arrest and stated that the process was political. The court rejected the request to include photographs from the rally on May 5, which show that Tsakunov did not hit the policeman.

According to investigators, during a rally by Navalny’s supporters on May 5, Tsakunov hit the victim policeman A.A. Sukharukov, who participated in his arrest, and with this blow knocked out Sukharukov’s tooth. This is qualified as an action dangerous to the life and health of a police officer. In court, the accused complained of poor health and asked not to be sent to a pre-trial detention center. He still has a girl at large, whom he supports and with whom they planned to get married.
