Director Kira Muratova died on June 6, the Ukrainian version of Buro 24/7 reports, citing Muratova's husband Yevgeny Golubenko.

Muratova graduated from the directing department of VGIK. In 1961 she became a director at the Odessa Film Studio. Her first independent films "Short Meetings" and "Long Farewell" were censored by the Soviet authorities.
In 1990, Muratova's drama "Asthenic Syndrome" received a special jury prize at the Berlin Film Festival. The last work of the director was the film "Eternal Return", after which Muratova announced her retirement from cinema.
