Restrictions were the response to the adoption of the Magnitsky List in Estonia

The Russian Foreign Ministry closed the entrance to the country for the "especially Russophobic" of opposed Estonian citizens. The ministry report does not have a specific list of persons who fell under restrictions. The measure was a response to a similar ban for Russians from the Magnitsky List.
In Estonia, restrictions were introduced after Russia was accused of poisoning the former GRU officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia. In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused the country's government of “anti -Russian” moods.
The mentioned decision of Tallinn testifies to the continuation of his frankly anti -Russian course, causing direct damage to bilateral relations.
Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation
As noted by Rus.postimees, the Russian Foreign Ministry called the Estonian ambassador, which was informed of the closure of the entry for some citizens. However, other details of the meeting were not disclosed.
The “Magnitsky Law” began to operate in 2012: according to it, sanctions are valid for Russians and organizations from the Russian Federation that violated human rights. Following the United States, such documents were accepted by Canada, Great Britain, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
