Nadia enters the ward, knowing in advance what reaction will cause her appearance. “Oh, Nadezhda Andrevna came,” - at these words on the face of a man who sits on a bed in hospital pajamas, a smile appears, the rest are also noticeably transformed. In the Tomsk Research Institute of Oncology, Nadia is a practice and is preparing to enter the residency in order to become cancer. When they ask her why oncomorology surrendered to her, she often talks about bypassing her favorite patients: “When you go into the ward to men with prostate cancer, they somehow cheer up immediately:“ Hi-hee, ho-ho, Nadezhda Andrevna ”... They have a wonderful girl, and this eliminates that we all have oncology.”

Saying “with us all,” Nadia has in mind herself too. Seven years ago, she found Hodgkin's lymphoma at the fourth stage. Then she studied in the first year of medical, had to take an academic vacation twice due to relapse.

The first time Nadia came to the oncologist with a complaint about the increased lymph node. The doctor made a gross mistake when taking a biopsy, which did not allow the disease to detect earlier: “I was in the first year and did not understand anything about it. Then there was most likely the first or second stage, and I ultimately got into the fourth. This could not have happened if the doctor worked a little differently. ”

Then Nadia was convinced of her experience that finding a good oncologist, in her expression, was a “big lottery”. Then she was convinced of this many times, working on an ambulance. The brigade, which was helped by Nadia, came to a woman with breast cancer, which after chemotherapy was discharged, despite serious complications. And Nadia met a lot of such patients for her practice, but if now she can determine and understand how the oncologist works, then she could not do this. In the same way as anyone who suspects cancer, but does not have a higher medical education, cannot.

About the fact that in St. Petersburg there is a Cancer Prevention Fund and the Higher School of Oncology (VSU), which fully pays for training in oncology for the ten to the best graduates of the mediocrum, Nadia learned from a classmate. She submitted an application, when they called to the third stage, she was surprised and rejoiced. She then already found out that Andrei Pavlenko will be in the commission-one of the best surgeons-oncologists in Russia, which a month ago learned that he had stomach cancer. “I generally had special feelings when I saw him. I wanted to approach and hug him, although I see him for the first time, and say: "I'm in the gang."

28 out of 315 graduates of medical universities from all over Russia and the CIS took place in the third final tour. At the interview, she, of course, was asked why she wants to become a surgeon-oncurologist. “This question is asked by many people. Why surgery? Why oncurology? Why do you need this? And the family? And children? You have a diagnosis ... and I don’t know, well, maybe I'm some kind of stubborn ram. I tried to experience myself in order to understand once and for all, or not - I was on duty for days to understand: I want to be a doctor, because there is so fun and great because surgeons are so funny guys, or because I like it? In the morning I will come to duty, I will leave only the next morning, but I still want, I still like it, I still can’t help but want it. ”

For the first time, she thought about prof, when during practice, the patient endlessly filled her complaints and requests that she should have informed her attending physician. For example, she demanded to cut off her half of the liver, the ovary and remove the joint despite the fact that she had kidney cancer. Nadia recalls this incident and laughs: "It was mmm ... interesting." It seems that Nadia wanted to formulate this differently, but she could never afford to say at least something dismissive to the patient. “It seems to me that I have much more chances not to deform than my classmates who are already working. I myself was in that situation. "

Nadia did not say anything about the diagnosis. After the end of the interview, which she did not pass, one of the examiners noticed a port on her neck for the introduction of chemotherapy. Nadia does not yet know whether she will submit an application to VSU next year, but she really wants to not lose touch with the project and remotely participate in the classes that she conducts at the STU for students additionally, inviting the best practitioners.

There are problems that are not solved in a day or even in ten years. “Higher School of Oncology” is a unique educational project engaged in the creation of a new system of teaching oncologists, which in the future will remain to work in Russia. Large changes do not occur quickly, and so that good oncologists in Russia cease to be a “big lottery”, it will take many more years. This year, 11 out of 28 people who went on the last round received Grant. Although the other 17, including Nadia, are more than worthy to study. We help VSU collect money to pay for oncologists who will not have the opportunity to be distracted by part -time jobs, because they will study almost seven days a week. If we manage to raise more money, then in a few years, if this problem touches us or our loved ones, competent oncologists will be a little more, and our chances will increase in this lottery.
