The FSIN asked the court to extend Navalny’s probation in the Kirovles case

The Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) asked the court to extend the probationary period for oppositionist Alexei Navalny, who was convicted of embezzling money from the Kirovles company. The petition was received today, writes Interfax.

According to the Federal Penitentiary Service, the demand is justified by numerous administrative offenses by Navalny. The trial period is proposed to be extended until the summer of 2019.

According to the agency, this is not the first time the Federal Penitentiary Service has been trying to extend the probationary period policy. Each time the court refuses, referring to the fact that the arguments of the department are not substantiated.

Recall that in 2013, Navalny and businessman Pyotr Ofitserov were accused of embezzling 16 million rubles from the Kirovles enterprise. The defendants were released on bail. Later, they were sentenced to a suspended sentence and a fine of 500,000 rubles.

In 2016, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) appealed against the verdict against the Kirovles defendants, after which the Supreme Court of Russia canceled the proceedings. The review resumed in 2016. A year later, Navalny and Ofitserov were sentenced to probation for five and four years, respectively, with a probationary period of 1.5 years.
