1793 Washington became the capital of the USA

225 years ago, on June 10, 1793, the city of Washington, founded two years earlier on the border between the states of Maryland and Virginia, became the capital of the United States instead of Philadelphia. Congress felt that the capital should be independent of the states for its security and the proper functioning of all federal institutions. Therefore, the territory of Washington was allocated to a special federal district of Columbia, which is not included in any of the states.
