
In the capital of Armenia, shares have been continuing for several days with a demand for the resignation of Catholicos of all Armenians Garegin II.
According to News.am , on June 11, participants in the next action gathered near St. Anna’s church and held a rally, which grew into a procession along the streets of Yerevan with the requirements of the "new Catholicos in New Armenia."
As TASS reports, on the eve of a similar action grew into a fight. When Garein II, after the worship, left the church, the protesters began to chant protest slogans, which served as a reason for a brawl.
“You do not have the right to demand the rejection of our Catholicos. We know who is behind you and what the goal you are pursuing,” one of the bishops said, noting that "the protesters want to weaken the Armenian Apostolic Church."
Catholicos himself left the scene of the incident. The arrived police officer managed to separate the participants in the fight. Most of them were representatives of the clergy.
It should be noted that the protests with the requirements for Garen II abandon the Catholicos San began last week. So, on June 6, about two hundred protesters, including representatives of the clergy, gathered in the center of Yerevan, near the church of St. Anna. Then it was reported that Garein II expressed his readiness to meet with the protesters.
According to the laws of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Catholicos is elected for life. Garevin II was elected the highest spiritual council Catholicos of all Armenians and the Supreme Patriarch in 1999.
