
The European Parliament demanded from Russia immediately and without any conditions to free Oleg Sentsov and all other political zones - citizens of Ukraine. This was reported on the website of the BI.
485 deputies voted for the adoption of the relevant resolution. 76 opposed, another 66 abstained.
The document is condemned by Moscow violation of international law in the occupied Crimea. The European Parliamentarians attributed the introduction of Russian legislation on the peninsula, the active militarization of Crimea, as well as a comprehensive and systematic violation of human rights on the peninsula. Russia, as a CuPont state, is emphasized in a resolution, is obliged to refrain from controversial judicial and administrative measures against the inhabitants of Crimea and respect the rights of Crimeans.
Deputies also mentioned violations of human rights in Russia itself. In particular, the principles of freedom of speech and freedom of assembly were indicated to Moscow. The resolution also condemned the laws on NGOs - "foreign agents" and the media - "foreign agents".
The European Parliamentarians were called by all EU members to firmness and unity in the issue of applying sanctions against Russia and their extension.
The resolution is dedicated to the opening of the World Cup in Russia. However, it does not contain a call for the diplomatic boycott of the mundial, contrary to previously exposed expectations .
