Four years ago, on June 14, 2014, a military transport aircraft of Ukraine Il-76 was shot down by local separatists from MANPADS while landing in the area of Luhansk airport. All 49 military personnel on board were killed.
In connection with the disaster, the former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General Alexander Nazarov, who authorized the flight in conditions when it was known that the separatists had MANPADS, was sentenced in 2017 to 7 years in prison on charges of criminal negligence.
