On October 30, 2017, the large jury of the jury presented Manafort and his assistant Rick Gatesfor 12 episodes . This is a conspiracy against the United States, money laundering, work as a foreign agent without laid registration, as well as two episodes of permissions, including in connection with the work of an unregistered foreign agent, and seven episodes of violation of banking and financial reporting.

After that, both defendants were sent under house arrest.

On February 22 of this year, special prosecutor Müller brought new charges to Manafort and Gates . This time they were charged with the preparation of false tax returns and banking fraud. Manafort was also accused of concealing foreign bank accounts. It is claimed that Manafort and Gates in 2006-2015 received several tens of millions of dollars for lobbying in the United States of the interests of Viktor Yanukovych, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Party of Regions, which ruled under the Yanukovych, and after the victory of the revolution of dignity - for promoting the interests of the opposition bloc.

It was originally reported that both defendants reject all charges. In March, however, it became known thatGates pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate with Müller. Meanwhile, Manafort still insists that he did not violate laws.
