The writer, founder of the folk rush of Ukraine Ivan Drach died

In Feofania near Kiev, an 81-year-old Ukrainian writer and politician Ivan Drach died, reports Radio Liberty. Drach is known as a poet, translator, playwright, founder of the folk rush of Ukraine.

The testament of the poet, he will be buried in his native village of Telizhents, Kyiv region at the grave of the son of Maxim. President Petro Poroshenko expressed condolences to the relatives "of one of the brightest poets from the cohort of the sixties."

In the 60s, Drach was connected with Ukrainian dissidents, but in 1966 he wrote an open letter in which he announced that he was repenting in his behavior.

In the late 1980s, Drach, along with Vyacheslav Chornovil, Mikhail Goryn and other prominent Ukrainian dissidents, created the folk rover of Ukraine and was its chairman in 1989-1992. In 1995, he headed the Congress of the Ukrainian intelligentsia. According to the first president of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, it was Drach who proposed to introduce the thesis on the neutral status of the country to the text of the draft declaration on the sovereignty of Ukraine.
