The ECHR communicated complaints from protest participants on November 5, 2017

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) communicated the complaints of Vadim Meletin, Alexander Ryabushkin, Evgeniy Sobolev and Maxim Shatrovsky, participants in the protests on November 5, 2017. Lawyer Nikolai Zboroshenko, who, in collaboration with OVD-Info, defended detainees in Russian courts, wrote about this on Facebook.

Detainees complained about the lack of food and water at the police station, being placed in small cells and lack of beds, and being kept in a paddy wagon for many hours without a detention record or court order. In addition, according to the detainees, the Russian court was biased in their regard and supported the prosecution. They also believe that the authorities violated their right to freedom of peaceful assembly.

• Vyacheslav Maltsev called on his supporters on November 5, 2017 to go to the city center and seek the resignation of President Vladimir Putin. More than 400 people were detained that day. In total, at least nine criminal cases have been initiated in connection with the protest.
• Maxim Shatrovsky is the son of Vyacheslav Shatrovsky, who was sentenced in May to three years in a general regime colony on charges of using force against a police officer. According to investigators, while checking documents, he hit a law enforcement officer “out of hooligan motives,” after which he was forced to use force on him and detain him.

Vyacheslav Shatrovsky claims that on November 5 he stood in Novopushkinsky Park and waited for his son to give him a bag. He had a conflict with a policeman, and Shatrovsky Sr. stood up for his son. During the dispute, the policeman threw the man over his shoulder, Vyacheslav Shatrovsky received an open craniocerebral injury and multiple bruises of the soft tissues of the head. The diagnosis was confirmed by doctors at the Sklifosovsky Institute. Later, Shatrovsky was helped to remove the stitches placed in the hospital from his head not by medical workers, but by fellow inmates in the pre-trial detention center.
