1793 First Constitution of the French Republic

225 years ago, on June 24, 1793, the French National Convention adopted a new constitution for the country. France was declared a republic, one and indivisible. Citizens were guaranteed universal education, public provision, unrestricted freedom of the press, the right to petition, the right to form popular societies and other human rights, as well as the right to assemble with “calmness” and the right to freely practice religious rites.
