In France, the Catholic priest who hit the child during the rite of baptism apologized to the boy’s family and announced his departure from the church, reports Premier .

On the Internet video, the moment captures the moment when 89-year-old Jacques Lacrois, trying to calm the crying two-year-old boy, beats his face quite strongly. In an interview with the France Info radio, the priest said that he was finishing his ministry and this was the last baptism that he committed.

According to the clergyman, the blow was something between affection and slap in the face. “I hoped to calm him down and did not know what to do,” Jacques Lacrois admitted.

In just a few days, the video gained more than four million views in just a few days and caused outrage among the commentators who considered this behavior of the priest unacceptable.

The scandalous incident occurred in the Church of the city of MO in the region of IL-de France. Bishop of MO Jean-Yve Namias confirmed that Father Jacques was suspended from all baptism and marriage ceremonies, adding that the child’s family was apologized.

The bishop called the incident regrettable, since baptism should be a happy moment in the life of man and his family. However, according to him, the fatigue of Jacques Lacrox and his solid age clearly played a role.
