In Chuvashia, at the request of the prosecutor's office, the court increased the punishment for the organizers of the May 5 rally

The Leninsky District Court of Cheboksary re-examined the administrative cases against the applicants for the May 5 rally, Marina Polytova and Alexander Sosnin, by decision of the Supreme Court of Chuvashia after a protest by the prosecutor. It is reported by "Idel. Realii” with reference to the lawyer of the activists, lawyer of the Agora International Human Rights Group Aleksey Glukhov.

The court twice found Polytova guilty of holding an event without approval (part 2 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) and assigned her 60 hours of compulsory work, considering the rally and the subsequent march to be two separate events.

Judge Vera Savelyeva found Sosnin guilty of organizing the march and sentenced him to 40 hours of community service. The second case against him for organizing a rally on May 5 was postponed to August 2, as another judge is on vacation.

After the decisions come into force, Glukhov will send complaints to the European Court of Human Rights.

On May 10, Marina Polytovri was sentenced to a fine of 600 rubles and 30 hours of compulsory labor under Art. 20.2, part 2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (holding an event without approval). Aleksandr Sosnin was fined twice by the court under the same article - 10,000 rubles and 12,000 rubles. The prosecutor's office of the Leninsky district appealed against the decision of the court, considering the imposed punishment disproportionate to the gravity of the offenses. The prosecutor also considered the court decision to combine the two cases of Polytova into one wrong: in his opinion, the rally and the procession are two separate offenses. The prosecutor made the same protest against Sosnin.
