1953 Arrest of Lavrentiy Beria

65 years ago, on June 26, 1953, Lavrenty Beria, Minister of the Interior and the first Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, was arrested in the Kremlin, falsely accused of plotting to seize power. After his arrest, the ruling four of Malenkov, Khrushchev, Beria and Molotov became the duumvirate of Malenkov and Khrushchev. The latter lasted until the beginning of 1955, when Malenkov was removed from the post of chairman of the Council of Ministers.
