Minsk is preparing for the parade. Rehearse. Tanks cripple asphalt, the city center is overlapping in broad daylight, citizens are packing backpacks and bags to leave the city for the entire ceremonial weekend. Belarusians do not like parades, and not only because of the holes in the asphalt.
When tanks drive through the streets, when the parade takes the commander in chief in Marshal, and next to him, the boy, also in the Marshal uniform, and a little at a distance - the Minister of the Interior in the form of the NKVD of the thirties, is disgusting. One seems that these are parades of the mummers, a mockery of taxpayers at their own account. Others - that this is the occupying army walking around the city. Alien army. All teams in this army are given in Russian. And the perception of the army as someone else’s, not his own, not protecting, but occupying, suppressing - the result of a long -term, detailed, planned destruction of the Belarusian language. Loss of language always leads to distrust and even hostile feelings in relation to state institutions.
I am very sorry that the Russians - including, alas, friends, colleagues, educated and smart people - most often do not understand what the drama is. And even in the native “new”, texts suddenly appear on the topic “Only the Russian language will give a Belarusian pass to science and culture, otherwise they will sit on trees, while spacecraft ...”. I'm not going to polemize. I do not want to explain on the fingers to the author that passing into science and culture is written out in any language. That for Belarusians a professional path to the west is much more popular, and not east, and Polish with Czech (this, if not talking about English) is more important and more promising for them than Russian. That reading “Uncle Styopa - Police” and even “War and Peace” in the original does not yet make a person educated. I just want to tell you what happened to the language of my country with the help of all kinds of uncle path.
That condition of the Belarusian language, in which he is now, did not fall on us from the sky. Is it really someone can believe that one day Belarusians suddenly all amicably abandoned their native language and spoke Russian, and now for some reason a bunch of renegades is stirring up water, trying to talk in an white Russian in a familiar Russian-speaking environment? Of course not. The Belarusian language was destroyed for a long and systematically, within the framework of Soviet colonial policy. From 1920 to 1937 there were four state languages in the BSSR - Belarusian, Polish, Russian and Yiddish. The slogan "Proletarians of all countries, connect!" On the coat of arms of the BSSR was written in all four languages. Moreover, paperwork was carried out mainly in two languages - Belarusian and Yiddish. Perhaps this is what predetermined their fate. With Yiddish, however, Hitler helped a lot. The Soviet government coped with Belarusian independently.
"You speak in Belarusian-it means a nationalist!" - Under this slogan in the thirties destroyed almost the entire national intelligentsia. In the thirty -seventh writers and scientists shot hundreds. The writers' archives were burned in the prison courtyard so that there was no word from these nationalists. Thus began the stigmatization of the Belarusian language, so the four -language multicultural environment has become a strict single -speaking one. Belarusians really began to speak Russian-to survive. Belarusian schools closed, universities switched to Russian, and although the generous Moscow left the Belarusians two school lessons of Belarusian per week, it was studied rather as a foreign. And the real Belarusian language, alive and warm, has become secret knowledge, like the forcibly baptized Spanish Jews - the Jewish faith.
By the way, do you know why Alexander Lukashenko has been holding in power for so many years? Yes, because it is conducting the same colonial policy in exchange for oil and gas at domestic prices. For 24 years that he was in power, not a single Belarusian -language university has opened in Belarus. For two millionth Minsk - only seven Belarusian -language schools. The Soviet official Alexander Lukashenko is not able to break the internal district committee matrix and therefore pronounces phrases like "nothing great cannot be expressed in Belarusian." So the Belarusians are saved themselves.
They say. They switch to Belarusian consciously, families and companies. Not only in everyday life, but also in business. Belarusian -speaking stores and gas stations appear. Books by Svetlana Aleksievich gives libraries a commercial bank, and the beautiful yellow boxes with Belarusian books are placed in the coffee houses a mobile operator. International brands that come to Belarus order commercials in Belarusian. The beer company celebrates the anniversary of the Minsk mayor of the year before lasting Count Karol Chapsky. At the Belarusian Ice Cream Festival, they treated it free of charge with seals.
And no state, no officials - all contrary, all themselves, more and more. And they will return their language, and universities will open, and will be happy. If only they do not start to shoot them again for this.
