Berlin: The United States promised not to impose sanctions for the construction of the Northern Stream - 2

The United States promised that Western companies participating in the construction of pipelines from Russia, including the Northern Stream - 2, would not fall under sanctions. According to Reuters, the Ministry of Economy of Germany stated this.

As RBC reports with reference to an unnamed source in the Russian government, the withdrawal of pipelines from the threat of sanctions discussed the vice-president of the European Commission Marosh Shefchovich with the American administration.

Meanwhile, in the spring of this year, the press secretary of the State Department of the United States Hiser Neurt did not exclude penal measures to participate in the construction of the Northern Stream 2. The same month, the commander in energy diplomacy, Sandra Udkirk, stated the same month last month.

Earlier this week, Denmark Prime Minister Lars Larcke Rasmussen said that his country may prohibit the construction of a gas pipeline in its territorial waters.

Gazprom said that in the event of such a decision of Copenhagen, the North Stream 2 will be carried out on an alternative route bypassing the territorial waters of Denmark. It was noted that this would lead to a sharp rise in the cost of the project.

Against the construction of the Northern Stream - 2, Ukraine is actively acting. It is supported by a number of Eastern European EU members. In Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, they stated that the maintenance of gas transit through Ukraine was necessary to ensure not only energy security, but also political stability in the region.

On May 3, in Germany, the construction of the ground docking point of the gas pipeline was started, and work in German territorial waters began on the 15th day of the same month.
