Alibaba will start selling food in Russia

Rural Taobao (part of Alibaba Group) will start selling food products in Russia via the Internet. In test mode, a special section will work on the Tmall site, which is also part of the corporation.

Judging by the presentation of Rural Taobao, seafood will form the basis of the assortment, writes RBC. So far, only Chinese goods will be sold, but it is possible that products from Russian manufacturers will soon appear.

RBC's source noted that at the same time in China, Russian products will be sold on Alibaba sites. For example, orders have already been received for flour and pasta under the Aleyka brand.

• The volume of the Russian e-commerce market, including cross-border purchases, according to the Association of e-commerce companies, in 2017 amounted to 3% of all trade in Russia - 1.04 trillion rubles. Most of the purchases of Russians in the network in physical and monetary terms fell on goods from China.
