Honda stops the release of the famous ASIMO robot

The Japanese company Honda announced the termination of the release of its Humanoid robot Asimo, which has repeatedly attracted the attention of the public and the media. Now the company intends to focus on the development of robots that can bring more practical benefits, writes Nikkei Asian Review .

As the publication explains, we are talking about autonomous wheeled robots and robots that can help patients. At the same time, in Honda they intend to use the technologies implemented in Asimo.

Work on the Honda humanoid robot, which became one of the symbols of Japanese achievements in this area, began as early as the 80s of the last century, and the first generation of Asimo was represented in 2000. Since then, the company updated the robot six times: the latest version of Asimo was released in 2014. This robot is able to recognize moving objects, determining the distance to them and the direction of their movement. In addition, Asimo understands gestures and voice commands and can independently move indoors.

In April 2014, as president of the United States, Barack Obama met with ASIMO, who impressed the robot skills: Asimo ran to Obama, showed how he could jump on one leg, and also demonstrated that he plays football well.

Note that the second most famous Japanese robot can be called the artificial dog Aibo developed by Sony. It was discontinued in 2006, but in January of this year, Sony introduced the new generation of Aibo. At the presentation, a robot similar to the puppy caused tenderness among journalists.
