Performance Meredith Monk will be shown in Moscow and St. Petersburg

On July 11, in the cinemas of Moscow and St. Petersburg, a performance of the performance of the legends of the American avant -garde Meredit Monk “Cellular Songs” (Cellular Songs), which became one of the main events of the Diaghilev festival, which recently ended in Perm, will take place.

The composer, singer, director and choreographer Meredith Monk went down in history as a pioneer in the area of ​​art, to which the definitions of “extended vocal technique” and “interdisciplinary performance” are applicable. Her works were exhibited in museums of contemporary art around the world. Short films and several drawings of Meredit Monk are in the Moma (New York) collection, her music sounds in the films of Terrens Malik, Jean-Luka Godard and the Cohen brothers.

The new Mredith Monk & Vocal Ensemble continues the line of meanings laid down in the album “On Behalf of Nature” (“On behalf of nature”, 2016), which received the Grammy Award nomination. “Cell songs” are devoted to the relationship of man and the surrounding world, they remind a person of his creative potential, which should be directed in the good of life on Earth.

The Russian premiere of the performance “Cell Songs” took place on June 22 at the Perm Sports Palace of Orlenok at the Diaghilev festival - 2018 .
