Alrosa found a small crooked diamond. It was seen as a symbol of the Russian team’s victory over Croatia

Diamond mining group Alrosa has found a small diamond that “looks exactly like a soccer ball.” This is what the ball looks like, according to company employees:

General Director of Alrosa Sergei Ivanov (son of Sergei Ivanov, the former head of the Russian Presidential Administration) stated that “this is a unique find”: “Nature creates various bizarre shapes, but this is the first time in our practice that we have encountered a diamond in the shape of a soccer ball.”

According to Ivanov, the find could be a good sign before the Russian national football team's game at the World Cup - on July 7 it will play with the Croatian national team. A press release on the Alrosa website dedicated to the stone is called: “For the quarterfinals, nature gave Russia a diamond in the shape of a soccer ball.”

The diamond was mined in the Arkhangelsk region; the head of the region, Igor Orlov, proposed naming the stone in honor of the Russian national team goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev. The diamond weighs 0.5 carats (0.1 grams) and measures 3.5 by 3.2 millimeters.
