In Omsk, a married couple was arrested for involvement in Jehovah's Witnesses

In Omsk on July 6, followers of Jehovah's Witnesses Sergei and Anastasia Polyakov were arrested. This was reported by the SOVA Information and Analytical Center.

It is assumed that the couple is accused of participating in the activities of an extremist organization (Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code). “Sova” notes that this is the first known case of a woman being arrested for involvement in Jehovah’s Witnesses.

In addition, on July 4, at least five searches were carried out in Omsk and the region at local followers of a religious organization. Law enforcement officers seized equipment and electronic media from them.

On June 30 and July 1, searches were also carried out in the Yakut city of Lensk. According to SOVA, searches were carried out in eight houses, after which 22 people were taken to the police. 15 people were interrogated as part of a criminal case, also initiated under Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code. There is only one accused in the case so far - local resident Igor Ivashin. He was given a written undertaking not to leave the place.

• In July, Andrei Stupnikov, suspected of organizing the activities of Jehovah's Witnesses, was arrested in Krasnoyarsk. The case file states that the man planned to take part in the international congress of Jehovah's Witnesses in Germany.
• In May , 18 searches were carried out on alleged members of Jehovah's Witnesses in Orenburg and the Orenburg region. After this, two local residents were arrested.
• In April, arrests in connection with accusations of involvement in the activities of Jehovah's Witnesses took place in the Primorsky Territory, Bashkortostan, Murmansk and Ivanovo regions. A resident of Vladivostok was arrested. Two residents of Polyarny (Murmansk region) were allegedly arrested.
• In February, two residents of Belgorod were detained on suspicion of organizing the activities of the Jehovah's Witnesses community.
• On April 20, 2017, the Supreme Court recognized the “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” as an extremist organization, liquidated it and banned its activities in Russia. In August, all organizations of Jehovah's Witnesses were added to the list of prohibited organizations.
