Presenter-Vladimir Kara-Murza-Senior.
Vladimir Kara-Murza Sr.: Don Strazes died in Salisbury, who suffered in late June from the action of the nerve substance "Novice".
About the details of this event, we are now, together with my guest - political scientist Grigory Trofimchuk, we will see the report of the Reuters agency Alena Ostrovskaya.
Correspondent: 44-year-old Don Rodes died on Sunday in the hospital of the English city of Salisbury. At the end of June, she and her friend Charles Rowley, according to British doctors, were poisoned by the nervous substance "Novice". Rodes became the first famous victim of this poison, developed in Soviet military laboratories. The woman had three children.
Kristin Blenshar , the deputy head of the hospital in Salisbury: the staff worked without lingering their hands to save the Don. Our employees are talented and devoted to the case of professionals. I know that it will hurt them too, they did everything they could. We will continue to treat the second patient who remains in critical condition.
Correspondent: Police said that the death of Rodes as a murder would investigate. Experts are trying to find out how the woman and her friend were in contact with the poisonous substance, and establish a connection with the Skripals case. According to police officers, there is no evidence that Rodes and her friend visited places disinfected after the attack on the former Russian spy.
Vladimir Kara-Murza Sr.: Grigory Pavlovich, is this a maneuver to let the investigation along the false trail?
Grigory Trofimchuk
Grigory Trofimchuk: It seems to me that the investigation has already been confused in many ways in this endless almost series. After the March plot with the poisoning of the Skripals, London was not 100% accused of Moscow, the leadership of the Russian Federation, that it was organized by poisoning. World public opinion did not believe this. I think that for this reason the problem began to aggravate, develop further - and July poisoning appeared in order to strengthen the impression. London today does not make specific accusations - and this is the difference between the July poisoning in the UK from the March - towards official Moscow. He simply says that it is necessary to fully understand what is happening. I think that this is done only for the reason that London, in particular, Teresa May , they turned out to be weak as professionals in this situation, because professionals in this psychological, propaganda sphere are not needed by any evidence of the legal property. But here the subject of the British kingdom was killed (or some other fighting poisonous substance), that is, here the situation reached a slightly different level, although the victim’s status was slightly different.
Vladimir Kara-Murza Sr.: Roman Churikov, a correspondent of Reuters agency, will remind the Chronicle of Events in Aimsbury.
Correspondent: The incident in Aimsbury is most likely in no way connected with the case of Sergei and Julia Skripal, and the poisoning of two British citizens was probably not intentional. This was stated by British Security Minister Ben Wallace. But this means that the influence of the nerve substance "beginner" can spread.
Ben Wallace , British Security Minister: I cannot guarantee that in Manchester you will be in one hundred percent security from terrorists. Also, I cannot guarantee that, being in the west of the country, you will not be exposed to a neuro-paralytic substance. The nature of the "beginner" is such that this is a search for a needle in a large haystack.
Correspondent: On June 30, doctors from the town of Eimsbury called a 44-year-old woman to help. She was found in her own house unconscious. Then the ambulance arrived at the same address already for a 45-year-old man. At first, the hospital suggested that they took polluted drugs, but then Scotland Yard confirmed: doctors again deal with the "novice". The neighbors of the hospitalized called reporters the names of the victims - these are Don Studges and Charlie Rowley. The acquaintance of the couple Sam Hobson said that he was next to Rowley when he became ill. According to him, he began to sweat, he had hallucinations. Shortly before hospitalization, a man visited a barbecue in a nearby church.
Roy Collins , Secretary of the Baptist Temple: A couple of men stood in line for the barbecue that I was handing out. When they came up to me, that of them that was older, he looked like he drank a little or something like that. I tried to make a conversation. He answered me, was welcoming and friendly, but not very adequate.
Correspondent: British authorities urge not to draw hasty conclusions. This, speaking in parliament, said the country's internal affairs Minister Sajid Javid, but said that we could expect a stream of further misinformation from the Kremlin.
Sajid Javid , Minister of Internal Affairs of Great Britain: we have already seen many versions of the latest events from the Russian state media. We can expect a stream of further misinformation from the Kremlin, as it was after an attack in Salisbury.
Correspondent: Meanwhile, in Moscow, poisoning in Aimsbury was called "a dirty political game." These are the words of the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova. Press Secretary of Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov expressed concern about what happened.
Dmitry Peskov , spokeswoman Vladimir Putin: this news causes deep concern in connection with such repeated manifestations in the UK.
Correspondent: Eimsbury is located 11 kilometers north of Salisbury. There, four months ago, they found the former GRU employee Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia on the bench. British experts later came to the conclusion that they were poisoned by a substance called the "newcomer" of Russian production. Teresa May suggested that special services from Russia can stand behind the incident. Moscow denies all charges. Sergey and Julia Skripal were recovering, discharged from the hospital and are now in an unknown place in the UK.
Vladimir Kara-Murza Sr.: We have in touch with lawyer Vladimir Gladyshev.
Vladimir, what alerted you in both the first and second cases of poisoning by local residents with this poison?
The most alarming is that, on the one hand, we have the use of military poisonous substances, and on the other hand, there is absolutely no understanding who did it, against whom it can be used next time
Vladimir Gladyshev: Alerted uncertainty. Obviously, someone decided to use a fighting poisonous substance against civilians. It is still not clear who did it. It is necessary to recall the report of the Chilkota Commission , published last year, summed up the results of the British special services, which served as the reason for the participation of Britain in the Iraqi war. It was said about deep manipulation of public opinion from the special services of Great Britain. Therefore, many people in the UK that I talked with the British government are skeptical. They do not say no, but they are not ready to believe in the word. The most alarming is that, on the one hand, we have the use of military poisonous substances, and on the other hand, there is absolutely no understanding who did it, against whom it can be used the next time.
Vladimir Kara-Murza Sr.: Grigory Pavlovich, do you agree that now the situation is even more confused than after the first poisoning?
Grigory Trofimchuk: Yes. And not only world public opinion cannot understand what is happening in the UK, I think that the British leadership, first of all, Teresa May, drives himself into an incomprehensible dead end. If the main thing is not proven - who carried out this crime, then, probably, another part of the problem can be solved - the protection of subjects of Great Britain is carried out so that there are no more such crimes in the country. The question arises: how far in this direction the law enforcement agencies and the leadership of Great Britain advanced, primarily in the person of Teresa May? It is clear, from the point of view of London, only one parameter - poisoning was carried out using the poison of "Novice". The feeling is that Teresa May has a rather shaky position in terms of political support within the UK. And if now she does not prove anything, if the cases with Brexit and poisoning are not clarified, brought to the end, then her position as the Prime Minister will significantly deteriorate. We see that Brekzita Minister, British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson, left his post. The leading policies of Britain began to leave Teresa May. Today she needs to clearly say - without any Highly Likely - about whom she suspects what is happening in the country, so that there would be no questions from Britain’s subjects to Teresa May itself.
Vladimir Kara-Murza Sr .: Journalist and writer Andrei Ostalsky came up with us.
Andrei, does this scandal of the stability of the entire ruling coalition threaten?
Andrey Ostalsky
Andrei Ostalsky: The stability of the ruling coalition threatens the scandal of enormous power with the departure from the government of Boris Johnson and David Davis, who at first seemed to support the general platform of the “soft” Brexit (you can argue about how “soft” he was in Brussels). On Friday, they drove with closed doors for 12 hours, and everything seems to be unanimously approved, which Britain wants to get from the European Union as the conditions of Brexit. But in today's letter, in which Boris Johnson fired, he wrote: “I realized that we should sing from one musical leaf. You told us about this on Friday, I seemed to have agreed, but on the weekend I tried to sing using these notes, and the sounds get stuck in my throat, I can’t do anything.” That is, he actually disavowed his own position and, following the Minister for Brekzit's Affairs, David Davis, he left the government. But Boris Johnson is the face of Brexita, this is the most famous, largest politician who originally stood in the position of departure from the European Union, an ardent Euro -attack, a symbol of this movement, along with Nigel Faraja . Now he has left the government, as everyone suggests, driven by ambitions, he wants to take the place of Teresa May. The dynamics of relations within the conservative party, on the one hand, and relations with the European Union, on the other, such that the supporters of Brexit, led by Johnson, seemed: a successful moment came to oppose May, achieve its overthrow, achieve the election of the new leader of the conservative party, and, consequently, the Prime Minister. Therefore, a fierce crisis. A conservative party may split in half. And in this case, even the coming to power of the Labor and Jeremy Corbin , that is, the political earthquake, is not excluded. But it is in no way connected with a very dramatic and terrible event - the poisoning of Don Rodes and Charlie Rowley in Eimsbury.
Vladimir Kara-Murza Sr.: We will listen to the opinion of the director of the Institute of the United States and Canada Alexei Garbuzov, who believes that in the story of the poisoning of the "novice" of the Skripals family and the latest events in Eimsbury, more questions to Moscow than to London.
Alexey Garbuzov: Unfortunately, neither Western society, nor British society, and Russian society, receive convincing answers to all these events. Therefore, each tragic story, especially - either the former Soviet or Russian subject, pours water into the mill of the British government and puts it in the role of a judge or prosecutor.
Vladimir Kara-Murza Sr.: Does the criminal part of this story completely rejects its political roots?
Vladimir Gladyshev
Vladimir Gladyshev: The ratio between the criminal and political components is the most interesting moment for the whole world that follows this. The investigation is still underway, but it is not clear what it will result in procedural. For example, when it comes to court in England, there is a procedure that is actually absent in Russia (for which the Russian judicial system is criticized a lot), as the disclosure of evidence. The British side must do this. For example, when the Litvinenko case came to the investigation commission, he was not transferred to court, because the British government did not want to transfer the materials that he had to the court. Therefore, the plot with Litvinenko was considered from the point of view of the semi -efficient, semi -parliamentary commission. The British criminal process in this case may not result in anything, because if it comes to some court, accusations against someone, then the British need to provide a complete disclosure of evidence. I do not think that at this stage it is possible for the British government. That is why the failures in the procedure are plugged with political demagogy and speculation. Unfortunately, the politicization of criminal justice is not exclusively a Russian phenomenon.
Alexey Garbuzov
Alexey Garbuzov: The peculiarity of this information war is that, it seems to me, none of the parties tells the fullness of the truth, this is the first. Second: sometimes conclusions are built on the basis of the dosed information that each party gives. As for the latest events related to death, with the victims, they are also completely incomprehensible. We see that the British authorities are in no hurry with such straightforward accusations as it was the first time.
Vladimir Kara-Murza Sr.: What is the main difference between the first case of poisoning from the second, when a person died?
Grigory Trofimchuk: The first and most importantly, in my opinion, is that according to the results of the first poisoning, London had a larger energy fuse, a greater desire to blame Moscow. There was the famous expression "Highly Likely", that is, London left some kind of admission. The second accusation looks pretty weak, London practically does not try to directly blame Moscow. Although, it would seem that if Teresa May had such a desire, then on the second poisoning London had to increase the accusatory degree and, having a specific sacrifice, already one hundred percent, including evidence, blame Moscow. This did not happen. On the contrary, there was a rollback back. And this raises questions about London, for him it is bad.
A very simple question is on the agenda: how far can London go in a deterioration in Russian-British relations?
Now there is a very simple question on the agenda: how far can London go in a deterioration in Russian-British relations? In general, there is nowhere to worsen Russian-British relations. May evidence appear about the second poisoning. What is London's goal? There is no goal. London gets confused even more. If you do not own methods of influence on world public opinion, then you did not initially need to get involved in this matter. Let those services that should be involved in their position dealt with this issue. But in the political plane this criminal offense did not have to pull. If you crossed this line, then you must clearly rest your finger on the forehead of the one you consider guilty. If you cannot, then you yourself are guilty.
Vladimir Kara-Murza Sr.: Andrei, in your opinion, did the English side have gotten away after the first case, which is practically crossed out by the second case?
Andrey Ostalsky: Maybe we are talking about the recall of the ambassador - for some time for consultations. There is such a form of diplomatic impact. I do not think that the second episode crossed something. Rather - vice versa. The attention of the British government is focused on 90% of what is happening in relations with the European Union, and on the internal crisis in the ruling party. But today, the British Defense Minister Gavin Williamson still said that in any case, the responsibility for death on the British land Don Rodes, Russia's innocent, is not involved in a British citizen, is Russia, even if it is just indirect result-due to the fact that she accidentally made contact with the spent number of “newcomers”. The Minister of Internal Affairs Sajid Javid also spoke about this in the House of Commons, using the expression "Dumping Ground". He said: "Russia turned our country into a landfill, where it dumps the remnants of the" newcomer ". They did not know what to do with it, they threw it away. And as a result, absolutely innocent people suffered. And this is an absolutely unacceptable position."
