Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree extending counter-sanctions until December 31, 2019, according to a document published on the official legal information portal.
The decree is called “On the extension of special economic measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation.”
The food embargo was introduced in August 2014 in response to sanctions from the EU, USA, Canada, Australia and other countries. By Putin's decree, the import of a number of goods into Russia, mainly food, was banned from these countries. The list of countries and goods then expanded.
