The idea of creating a team of voluntary assistants to environmental structures belongs to the head of the Department of the Directorate of Special Natural Territories of the Republic of Altai "of the natural park" Oblast Zone "Leonard Takhanov. This year the plan was implemented, and the public anti-coloronier inspection was created under the administration of the Kosh-Agach district. Public inspectors have no official authority. They can participate in raids along with employees of environmental structures as assistants or witnesses, seek out violations, conduct conversations with the population.
“A rather serious institution of public inspectors existed in the Soviet Union: the combatants helped the law enforcement agencies and environmental guidance,” says Sergey Verkhovets, coordinator of the Alta-Sayan branch of WWF. - Today, the need to revive the Institute of Public Barrymen is constantly being discussed, but the legislative framework has not yet been created. Social activists act only by the assistants of the inspectors, but save the forces of employees, allow you to cover a large territory with patrols, and perform additional tasks during the operational raid. ”
In June, the public inspectorate held the first raid on Kokorinsky and Telengit-Cortoga rural settlements of the Kosh-Agach district. They examined the lakes to identify cases of illegal fishing. There were no traces of poaching. Volunteers held conversations with the local population about the rules of hunting and the need to comply with the legislation. Residents of the district positively reacted to the work of the brigade, and some expressed a desire to cooperate with volunteers.
“The project itself is aimed at ten inspectors with whom we work this year. We provide them with equipment and the necessary equipment. They make up the backbone of the inspection. The total number of volunteers exceeds one hundred people. These are ordinary rural residents living in parking lots in the mountains. They can record some suspicious movements of strangers and inform employees of state environmental structures about them. Absolutely anyone can get to us, with the exception of those who have health restrictions, ”said Taiga.info Leonard Takhanov.
