1893 Vladimir Mayakovsky was born

125 years ago, on July 19, 1893, Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky was born, who took first place in the Soviet poetic table of ranks. Mayakovsky's canonization took place in 1935, after Stalin imposed the following resolution on a letter from the poet's beloved Lilya Brik:

"Comrade Yezhov! I beg you to pay attention to Brik's letter. Mayakovsky was and remains the best, most talented poet of our Soviet era. Indifference to his memory and his works is a crime. Brik's complaints, in my opinion, are correct. Contact her (with Brik) or call her to Moscow. Involve Tal and Mekhlis in the case and please do everything that we missed. As Boris Pasternak later wrote, "Mayakovsky was forcibly brought in, like potatoes under Catherine. This was his second death. He is innocent of it."
