Crimean Tatar human rights activist Emir-Usein Kuku stopped his hunger strike in a pre-trial detention center

Crimean Tatar human rights activist Emir-Usein Kuku, accused in the Yalta case of Hizb ut-Tahrir, stopped his hunger strike in pre-trial detention center No. 4 of the Rostov region. about this on Facebook Journalist Anton Naumlyuk wrote with reference to Leonid Petrashis, chairman of the POC in the Rostov region.

The report says that on July 18, Kuku wrote a statement to end the hunger strike. According to Naumlyuk, the arrested person “began the recovery process: he takes nutritional mixtures and undergoes medical procedures.”

The day before, the journalist reported that the prisoner was not given the infant formula that his wife Meryem Kuku brought to him.

Naumlyuk also published a letter in which Kuku spoke about the serious state of health and that during the hunger strike he lost 11 kilograms. The arrested person did not undergo maintenance therapy procedures. Kuku reported that he was taken for examination to the inter-regional tuberculosis hospital:

On 16.07 they were taken again to the MOTB (hospital for tuberculosis prisoners). The doctors do not tell me anything about the results of the tests and the ECG, but it is clear from the faces that nothing is good. In general, for several days the SIZO doctors stopped telling me anything about my condition, and they even stopped checking my weight.

On June 26, Emir-Usein Kuku went on a hunger strike demanding the release of all Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia and an end to repressions against the Crimean Tatars.

• Kuku and other defendants in the Yalta case - Muslim Aliyev, Vadim Siruk, Ever Bekirov, Refat Alimov, Arsen Dzhepparov - are accused of participating in the activities of the Hizb ut-Tahrir terrorist organization (Art. 205.5 of the Criminal Code) and preparing for a violent seizure of power (Art. 278 with the application of Article 30 of the Criminal Code).
• Hizb ut-Tahrir is recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia. Cases of terrorism have been opened in different regions of the country, while members of the cells of the organization are accused and sentenced to various terms in a strict regime colony only on the basis that they met in apartments, read religious literature and recruited new members.
• Emir-Usein Kuku is on the Sentsov List, a list of political prisoners whose release is demanded by the convicted director. OVD-Info collected known information about 88 people associated with Ukraine and persecuted by the Russian authorities. Among these people there are both those deprived of liberty and those sentenced to suspended sentences, which means that they have limited movement.
