Putin for the first time appreciated pension reform

Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time expressed his opinion about the government age proposed by the Government, which was approved by the State Duma. According to the head of state, he does not like such a reform, but “you need to based not on emotions”, but on the state of the economy and life expectancy.

Putin commented on the reform at a meeting with the volunteers of the World Cup in Kaliningrad on July 20.

“This is a question, of course, very sensitive to a large number of our citizens. And, you know, this question did not arise yesterday. It is discussed, one way or another, with less or more intensity for many years. And different options were proposed. And when they asked me, and now they also ask which of the various options I like, and then and now I can say: no. I don’t like it, associated with an increase in age, ”the Kremlin press service quotes the president.

According to Vladimir Putin, few people like the reform in the government, since "they cannot like the vast majority of our citizens." But at the same time, the authorities should not be based on emotions, "but on real assessments of the state of the economy, the prospects of its development, the social sphere." The current border (55 years for women, 60 for men) was adopted in 1956.

“When our colleagues of past years made this decision, they said that as demographic indicators developed, as the life expectancy increased, the age of retirement will increase. Let me remind you that then the average life expectancy was 67 years. But nothing was done, ”the president said.

Putin noted that the Russian authorities can “do nothing” for 5-10 years, for which there are enough opportunities to ensure the maintenance of the pension system. At the same time, six workers have already accounted for five pensioners, if this balance is deteriorating, “the pension system will burst.” By ignoring the problems, the authorities will “inflate” the citizens, he summed up. But there is no final decision on reform yet, its parameters will be determined after the discussion.

The State Duma in the first reading approved the bill on raising the retirement age on July 19. He was supported only by the United Russia faction, which has a constitutional majority. Communist Party, LDPR and "SR" opposed . The second reading is scheduled for autumn.
