The head of the Main Directorate of the Military Police of the Ministry of Defense Vladimir Ivanovsky announced the need to return the right to arrest soldiers to the commanders and commandants of the military units. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the speech of the security forces at the meeting of the Committee of the Council of Defense and Security.

“It would have simplified both time and deadlines,” Ivanovsky explained.

Within six months, he added, the department will work out the question.

The chairman of the Council of Council, Viktor Bondarev, promised to provide "assistance and support" to the initiative. “We all perfectly understand that the soldiers are beautiful, but there are one, as they say in Russia, a lousy sheep that spoils the whole herd, and even the commander has nowhere to isolate it according to the law,” he explained.

According to the current norms of the decision to send soldiers to the guardhouse, the garrison court takes. The maximum term of arrest is 30 days. The conclusion on the guardhouse is provided for charges of gross disciplinary offenses, such as unauthorized absence, being drunk in part and violation of the authorized relationship. Women, as well as officers are not sent under disciplinary arrest.

In 2002, the guardhouse was canceled in the Russian army, but already in 2006 it was restored.
