A court in Tver approved the sentence of an electrician for a post against Putin on a social network

The Tver Regional Court rejected an appeal against the sentence of Vladimir Egorov, who received a two-year suspended sentence in the case of public calls for extremism. This was reported by the lawyer of the International Human Rights Group "Agora" Svetlana Sidorkina.

In early June, the Toropetsk District Court sentenced Egorov, the father of two young children and the former head of the Yabloko party branch in Toropets, to two years of suspended imprisonment with a probationary period of three years under the article on public calls for extremism using the Internet (Part 2 of Article 280 UK).

According to the prosecution, Egorov, as a moderator of the “Citizens of Toropets” group on the VKontakte social network, posted a post “containing in its linguistic structure calls for extremist activities.” In the text, Egorov called on “not to fall for propaganda tricks” and “take down the main Kremlin rat with his cronies and accomplices.”

• In 2016, after a criminal case wasopened against Egorov, and unknown persons tried to set fire to his house twice, the man tried to hide from persecution on the territory of Ukraine. At the beginning of July 2017, the Ukrainian authorities refused to grant Yegorov political asylum, after which he had to go to Minsk.
• In June 2017, the man did not appear for questioning at the Russian Federal Security Service, after which he was put on the federal wanted list. On July 31, FSB officers detained Egorov at the border with Belarus. From August 3 to November 16, 2017, the man was in a pre-trial detention center. Then the investigator did not demand that the court extend the arrest and changed the preventive measure to a written undertaking not to leave the place.
• “Grani” clarified that Egorov’s text was a commentary on the article “You need to leave for another job” published in Novaya Gazeta, which he published in a group on VKontakte. The material is devoted to the remark of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev: the politician advised the teacher, who complained about low wages, to start a business if he “want to earn money.”
