The person accused of inciting hostility towards the head of Ingushetia was not allowed to attend his father’s funeral

In Ingushetia, the Magas District Court did not change the measure of restraint for Magomed Khazbiev, who was arrested on charges of inciting hostility towards the head of the republic. It is reported by Interfax.

The defense side filed a motion to transfer Khazbiev from the pre-trial detention center to house arrest in connection with the funeral of his father. However, the judge rejected the request, saying that if the measure of restraint was changed, the defendant could abscond.

Magomed Khazbiev is accused of inciting hostility towards the head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, the government, representatives of the judiciary, security and power structures on the basis of belonging to a social group (Article 282 of the Criminal Code).

The charges were filed on May 24. The reason for starting a case on inciting hostility was an interview by Khazbiev published on the Internet.

The conclusion based on the results of a psychological and linguistic examination states that the interview “contains elements of a realized intention to humiliate (insult) the personality of Yevkurov and representatives <…> of all power structures of Ingushetia.” Experts also note that in the publication "there are signs of an incentive to change the current government in the Republic of Ingushetia, including the change of President <...> Yevkurov."

  • Magomed Khazbiev was arrested on 11 January. He is also accused of illegal possession of weapons (Article 222 of the Criminal Code) and insulting a representative of the authorities (part 1 of Article 319 of the Criminal Code). He considers his persecution political.
  • In January 2015, the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Ingushetia suspected the opposition leader and his relatives of stealing cars and possessing weapons.
