The court in Yerevan arrested the ex-president of Armenia Robert Kocharian

The court of first instance of Yerevan satisfied the request of the special investigative service of Armenia to arrest the former president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, accused of overthrowing the constitutional system in 2008. According to Interfax , Kocharyan was arrested for two months.

“I can’t say anything else. No details. Tomorrow we are convening a press conference,” Kocharyan Aram Orbelian, lawyer Kocharyan, told reporters on Friday.

On July 26, the Armenian special investigative service charged Robert Kocharian as part of the display of demonstration on March 1, 2008.

"Based on the comparison of the evidence of evidence acquired during the preliminary investigation in the criminal case on March 1-2, the former President of Armenia was charged under Part 1 of Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia that he, by preliminary consent with other persons, overthrew the constitutional system. A petition for the arrest of Robert Kocharyan was sent to the court," the service said.

On March 1, 2008, participants in a multi -thousandth action protesting against the results of the presidential elections in which Serge Sargsyan defeated were dispersed. At the same time, ten people were killed, more than 250 were injured. Kocharian considers the accusation against him to overthrow the constitutional system in 2008.

“This is a political persecution, this is Wendetta. I did not think that in our modernity the accusations can be fabricated,” Kocharyan said in an interview with the Erkir Media television channel on Thursday evening.

Robert Kocharian believes that he is trying to prevent him from participating in the upcoming extraordinary parliamentary elections. "The current authorities are thinking about the upcoming extraordinary elections and try to neutralize me. They want to tear me away from political processes. But over the past ten years I have stated that I did not want to engage in politics, but this is the case when you are engaged in politics, and politics is engaged in you," he said.

“I will fight to the end. I’ll go, sit down, but I will fight to the end,” Kocharyan said. In an interview, Kocharian denied the charges against him, saying that there were no clashes of the army with demonstrators in 2008.

Kocharian was the President of Armenia from 1998 to 2008.
