The ECHR awarded compensation to the defendant in the Ufa case of Hizb ut-Tahrir in the amount of 4,600 euros

The European Court of Human Rights awarded compensation in the amount of 4,600 euros to Irek Tagirov, a defendant in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case in Ufa. This was reported by Idel. Realities" with reference to one of the participants in the process.

According to the publication, the court found the man’s long detention during the investigation unjustified. According to the interlocutor of “Idel. Realities,” seven more defendants in this case are awaiting a decision from the ECHR on their complaints.

• In March 2018, relatives of 13 defendants in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case in Bashkortostan spoke about the torture of the accused.
• In total, 26 people are involved in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case in Ufa. In February 2015, they were detained and accused of participating in the activities of an organization recognized as terrorist (Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code). After a year, everyone who did not admit guilt was additionally charged with preparing for a violent seizure of power (Article 278 of the Criminal Code using Part 1 of Article 30).
• Three of the 26 are on the run, two have already been sentenced to four years in a general regime colony.
• Hizb ut-Tahrir is recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation. Cases of terrorism have been opened in different regions of the country, while members of the organization’s cells are accused and sentenced to various terms in a maximum security colony only on the basis that they met in apartments, read religious literature and recruited new members.
