We publish an excerpt from the graphic novel "Diary of Anna Frank"

The diary of Anna Frank is a world-famous document, the memory of the Holocaust, but at the same time it is a soulful and sincere story of a teenage girl.

The graphic novel was created by Ari Folman and David Polonsky - a screenwriter and artist nominated on an Oscar and who received the Golden Globe of the cartoon “Waltz and Bashir”. With the help of illustrations, they managed to convey the social context in which the diary was created. The format of the graphic novel allows you to feel the life of Anna's family even more acutely, forced to spend 743 days in the shelter.

The comic contains translated inserts from the original diary, the translation of which (and adaptation as a whole) was approved by the Anna Frank Foundation, which oversees publications around the world.

- “The Diary of Anna Frank” is one of those books that are simply impossible to pass by is impossible not to publish. Two things in this book personally are most amazed at me: the way this girl carefully and unusually looked at the world, and how the images described by her become brighter and how much she “wakes up” becomes more clearly from the record. And the first thing that clings in the graphic version is stylish unusual illustrations. You begin to read and gradually realize how much jewelry is done by the screenwriter and artist, how exactly they conveyed the mood of the original text, how Anna was vividly portrayed - her huge black eyes stare at the reader from the pages.
We also had doubts, of course, - for sure we will be reproached for the format, they say, "comics are too frivolous for such a serious work." But it is precisely such a format, as we hope, will help us show this unusual story of a young audience, to hook readers close to Anna by age, tell them about the terrible that we must not forget. And after all, this book is not only about the Holocaust, it is also about the life of a teenager through the eyes of a teenager. So the format of a graphic novel will help to breathe a new life into history.
