In the Belgorod region, local residents set houses on fire after the murder of a nine-year-old girl

In the village of Urazovo, Belgorod Region, after the murder and rape of a child, local residents tried to organize pogroms in the houses of the Roma diaspora. TASS reports this.

At the end of July, the body of a murdered and raped nine-year-old girl was found in the village. The police detained a suspect in the crime - a 30-year-old stateless man. During interrogation, he fully admitted his guilt.

On the night of August 3, unknown persons set fire to three houses in the village belonging to Roma families. REN-TV reports that they used to break windows in houses. After this, additional police units were sent to Urazovo. Echo of Moscow, citing human rights activist Lev Ponomarev, reports that more than 200 Roma who live in the village are now leaving their homes.

The head of Urazov, Alexei Rozhin, told BelPress: “Rumors that half the village burned down are completely unfounded,” and it would be more correct to speak “not even about fires, but about attempted arson.” Three people are suspected of this.
